At the south end of Maidenhead Bay in Ayrshire, this fishing community overlooks Arran, Ailsa Craig, and the Mull of Kintyre. Robert the Bruce landed here after sailing from Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland after his spider experience in the early 14th century. The Earls of Carrick lived in Turnberry Castle, now a ruin. With its mediaeval dock, large beach, two restaurants, and closeness to Turnberry and Culzean Castle, Maidens is a popular tourist destination.

The enclosed garden was great for my cocker spaniel to run about in chasing her ball. The views were lovely although it wasn't the best of weather. Unfortunately I had to cut my visit short due to an emergency at home but the time I was there was very relaxing. Would definitely think about returning

The beach is a minute from your door- there views are stunning if you get good weather. The sun room at the front is a lovely haven to relax in. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen. The decor is well done and clutter free. Everything was very clean and tidy. The heating makes the cottage cosy and it is definitely needed on cold days. Unfortunately the beds were very uncomfortable- the mattresses were so hard and unsupportive with springs easily felt- our sleep was not great because of this. We would love to return to visit Maidens and would consider this cottage if they had better mattresses.

The cottage is decorated very tastefully and is much bigger than it appears from the outside, making it very comfortable/spacious for two occupants. The bathroom/ shower is excellent. There are beautiful views across towards the sea and there are some lovely attractions only a short drive away (Culzean castle being a highlight). We would definitely use the cottage again as we had a lovely relaxing week there.
