The property is well-equipped, offering modern conveniences while retaining its character. Guests enjoyed the convenient location for walks and local amenities, despite occasional noise from nearby social venues.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property consistently receives accolades for its spotlessness, with multiple reviews highlighting its exceptional cleanliness, contributing to a very high score in this category.

The location is appreciated for its proximity to local amenities and scenic walks, although there are some mentions of noise from nearby pubs and social clubs. The balance of positive location attributes against the noise concerns results in a strong score.

Guests find the property comfortable, mentioning the cosy atmosphere, underfloor heating, and comfortable beds. The historical nature of the building adds to the comfort score, with only minor concerns about noise affecting the overall high rating.

The property is well-regarded for its facilities, blending modern amenities with its historical character. However, some guests experienced issues with the Wi-Fi, which slightly lowers the score.

While guests frequently mention the warm welcome and thoughtful touches like cake and tea, there is not enough information to guarantee such gifts for future guests. Therefore, the score is set to null, but the sentiment is positive.

About this property

This atmospheric holiday cottage in Polesworth is set over three floors and forms the larger side of the ancient Abbey Gatehouse. It oozes character and charm, with a spacious sitting room with a warming woodburner, antique furniture and a charming half tester double bed. On the second floor is a twin bedroom with exposed beams and its own sitting area overlooking the ancient roof and datestones. Exposed beams, leaded windows and stone windowsills all add to the charm, whilst the contemporary furnishings make this Polesworth cottage first-class accommodation for family and friends all year round. Note: This property can be booked with Porter's Lodge, (ref 27119), together they sleep 6.

The town of Tamworth is a large market town which takes its name from the River Tame which flows through the town, along with the River Anker. Tamworth is home to both Tamworth Castle and the Moat House, two wonderful, historic buildings. The town is also home to the Snowdome, a full-sized indoor ski slope with real-snow and Drayton Manor Theme Park is not far away, providing a fun-filled day out for everyone.

It is so atmospheric and historic. Very clean and well maintained. There was quite a lot of noise from the club / pub across the road on Fri and Sat nights, but we used ear plugs. Father Phillip was a great host. There was a monthly market on the car park behind the house on Saturday with lovely food stalls. Fruit pies from the SPAR were to die for. If you have a small dog the garden won't be secure, as the bars on the fence are quite far apart. Our Staffy could easily get through. Beautiful accommodation. Lots of stairs.

Gatehouse Croft is extremely comfortable and there are extensive walks along the canal in either direction. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

(It was 1 of 5 in 2023 alone). The furniture is all in country-house elegantly-mismatched style. Solid wood, no veneered chipboard and certainly no laminate anywhere ! The kitchen and all the pans, crockery, cutlery etc are of the highest quality. As are the bedrooms and bathrooms. On entering I turned on the radio - tuned to Classic-FM - says it all ? A wonderful very relaxing week away over New Year. Plenty of good canal towpath and other walks straight out from the cottage door.
