Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviewers describe the property as immaculate, highlighting its cleanliness and fresh appearance, indicating meticulous upkeep and attention to detail.

The property's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to woods for walking, and easy access to the A27 for exploring the area. Its closeness to attractions like Fontwell and Goodwood races adds to its appeal.

The barn is repeatedly commended for its comfort, especially the super comfortable bed and the variety of places to relax, including the sun lounge and patio. The only minor note is the sloped ceiling in the bedroom, which may require some guests to be cautious.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped and offering a range of amenities. The mention of an icebox rather than a full freezer suggests a slight limitation, but overall, the facilities meet guests' needs effectively.

Guests appreciate the thoughtful extras provided by the owner, such as a welcome pack and other surprises. While these are warmly received, it's worth noting that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed with every stay.

About this property

This former stable building rests in the heart of the West Sussex countryside, on the edge of the hamlet of Fontwell. Presented to an excellent standard with easy access to the South Downs National Park, The Stables Barn is a delightful escape for couple looking to spend some time in this part of Sussex. Step into your new home-from-home and become acquainted amongst the appliances in the kitchen, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and even a washing machine, so there’s no need to bring your whole wardrobe! Escape to the lounge for your down time, curling up on the sofa and catching up on your favourite shows, or choose the conservatory for some quiet time. Head outdoors and make the most of the enclosed garden patio, offering a furniture set from which you can enjoy alfresco dining on a balmy evening. Whisk away upstairs and make yourself comfortable within the bedroom, complete with a TV and king-size bed. After a leisurely slumber, wake yourself up with a refreshing rinse in the shower room before going about your day. The local area is filled with excellent walking opportunities, with the South Downs National Park offering a myriad of routes and chalk cliffs that stretch for 260 square miles. Visit the historical market town of Arundel, home to a medieval castle and quaint antique stores, where you can enjoy a meal in a rustic pub and meander around the charming streets. Further afield, explore the Roman city of Chichester and visit its beautiful cathedral, or catch a race day at the Goodwood Racecourse. There’s lots to look forward to whilst staying at The Stables Barn.

Fontwell is a small hamlet in the heart of the Sussex countryside, made famous by Fontwell Park Racecourse, where in October 1949 Princess Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth II had her first win as the owner of Monaveen. The racecourse is still a popular venue with 23 meetings each year, including the customary Boxing Day race day. Fontwell itself is made up of several scattered cottages and equestrian centres, nestled within Slindon Woods on the edge of the South Downs National Park. Arundel is 5 miles to the east, here visitors are able to tread cobbled streets and explore this pretty market town with its castle and cathedral both set high up on the hills overlooking the River Arun. Arundel also offers quaint shops, art galleries and a number of pubs and restaurants, as well as a monthly farmers’ market, here you can buy local cheeses and breads, along with fruits and cakes, so why not fill your picnic basket and head for the South Downs, or to the coast for a day on the beach. You cannot come to this part of Sussex without visiting Goodwood. With horse racing, motor racing and Goodwood House, a 17th century stately house home to the Duke of Richmond (open to the public from March to October) everyone will have a day to remember. With so much to see and do you will want to return to this Sussex hamlet time and again.

The Barn was very well appointed and the little extras were an added bonus, it really made a difference. We loved taking our meals in the conservatory, where we could watch the wildlife. Great attention to detail, very comfortable and a warm welcome from Debs and Lindsay. Great part of the country. Lots to do without having to travel miles …… and the bed was so comfortable!

The extras the owner provides are very thoughtful and all is very dog friendly. Really enjoyed our stay and such a comfortable bed ensured a really great night's sleep all week. Just by way of help, guests need to be aware of the sloped ceiling in the bedroom and steep stairs up to it. The 'freezer' detailed in description is in fact just an icebox in the fridge. That said, these really are not negatives; we loved it and would happily stay again.

The furnishing were first class, the TV had a wide selection to choose from. A prefect stay for two old codgers, and even managed the stairs when nature called during the night !! The garden birds entertained us whilst eating in the conservatory. The area was perfect for exploring a county we had not visited before. We will definitely return before our days are numbered !
