Snaptrip says

West View is a characterful cottage appreciated for its spaciousness, warmth, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests have enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, with particular praise for the comfortable beds and the property's suitability for family gatherings. The village location is charming, with a local pub and scenic surroundings adding to the appeal. While some maintenance issues were noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property spotless and well-maintained, while others reported issues such as dampness and a musty smell. The presence of a dead mouse and an uncleaned log burner were also mentioned. However, the majority did not raise cleanliness as a concern.

The location is highly praised for its beauty and convenience. Situated in a picturesque village with a local pub and proximity to attractions, it offers a tranquil setting that is ideal for exploring the Isle of Wight.

Many guests found the cottage comfortable, with a warm, inviting atmosphere and cosy features like a woodburner and an Aga. Spacious rooms and comfortable beds were frequently mentioned, although some guests suggested improvements such as a larger bed in one of the rooms.

The cottage is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests appreciated the comprehensive information book. However, there were several reports of maintenance issues such as problems with the dishwasher, heating, and showers. These detracted from the overall experience for some guests.

While some guests were pleased with the amenities provided, such as toys for children and a well-stocked kitchen, there were comments about the lack of a welcome pack or similar gestures. As gifts are not consistently mentioned across reviews, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness, and it is important to note that such gifts are not guaranteed.

About this property

Set at the heart of Shorwell, a charming village just a short drive from the coast on the Isle of Wight rests the delightful, Grade II listed cottage of West View. Thoughtfully-preserved and maintaining much of its original charm, this historic property enjoys its own furnished courtyard, well-appointed living spaces, and superb positioning to nearby amenities and attractions, making it an idyllic choice for a family or group of eight friends seeking a relaxing, self-catered escape within the brilliant Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Step into your fabulous new dwelling, whereupon you’ll be greeted by a spacious sitting room, which exudes a soothing, neutral theme centred by a stunning inglenook fireplace housing an inviting woodburning stove. Adjacent to this you will find a quirky twin bedroom, enhanced with rustic wooden beams and a feature period fireplace for an added touch of class. The country cottage-style kitchen/diner continues this unique theme, hosting an impressive, retro-style AGA cooker, multi-coloured tiling, and splendid cream-coloured units that compliment the central dining table. When sleep calls, head upstairs to discover three further bedrooms, which provide an array of sleeping arrangements including a twin, a double, and a sumptuous master bedroom embellished with a feature stone chimney breast and a sleek en-suite shower room. The interior is finished off elegantly with a family bathroom consisting of a glistening all-white suite. When you want to unwind, step out into the courtyard where you can take a peaceful seat with morning coffee in hand, or perhaps enjoy a spot of alfresco dining for lunch or dinner with the help of the barbecue. If you can tear yourself from your amazing new base, head out to explore what your local area has to offer. Set out on foot into Shorwell, where a brief stroll will bring you the fantastic Shorwell Stores where you can stock up on homely essentials; treat your loved ones to a hearty lunch at 17th century pub of The Crown Inn, and be sure to stop by the popular tourist spots of Wolverton Manor, which hosts an annual garden fair every September; the scenic point of Heath Hill; and the Chillerton Down nature reserve, an unspoilt chalk downland partially owned by the National Trust. If you fancy venturing further afield, jump in the car and traverse the Isle of Wight AONB, where the landmarks and locales of Fern Bottom, Shepherds Chine beach, the Whale Chine nature reserve, Carisbrooke Castle, and the Ventnor Botanic Garden are all waiting to be discovered. Enjoy the ultimate getaway to the Isle of Wight when you book West View.

Shorwell is near the south coast of the Isle of Wight and is served by a pub serving food, a shop and Post Office. The area offers footpaths and bridleways, pretty villages and coastal scenery. It was a lovely surprise to see the tree in the lounge. Beds were made up with crisp white sheets. Aga threw out great heat in the kitchen, which was well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery etc. felt really at home and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Only down side was the parking. The drive was difficult to get into and even harder to get out, being on a blind bend. We left our car at my sister’s house, so it wasn’t a problem. A big thank you to the owners for making us feel so welcome.
