About this property

Eastgate Cottage and Hideaway is a spacious, luxury coastal retreat offering spectacular front-line views of the marshes and the sea in Salthouse. With beautiful furnishings and stunning views, this stylish detached retreat, which includes an annexe, will prove a favourite with Hideaway guests wanting to visit this ever-popular coastal village.

Characterful and charming, yet contemporary and stylish, this large and quirky luxury retreat is ideal for multi-generational families or a group of friends, with two downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms; one in the adjoining annexe where you’ll find a very spacious bedroom and bathroom with small kitchenette; and a downstairs bedroom and shower room in the main house, boasting amazing views straight out across the marsh to the sea. Upstairs (the stairs are quite steep and narrow) you'll discover two further bedrooms; a bunk room (with double bed beneath and single on top) and a king-size bedroom; the latter of which has views of the sea and marsh. Both of these rooms share a beautiful bathroom with free-standing bath.

To the rear of the main house you’ll find a practical porch area for boots and coats and space for wiping down muddy paws. From here you enter a lovely semi-vaulted kitchen/dining area with beautiful beams which is both sociable and practical with hard floors and a shaker-style kitchen, filled with everything you would need to cook whilst away on holiday. Also within this area is a dining table and chairs plus a bench for inside dining. The cosy, warm and spacious sitting room comes into its own during the winter months with its wood burning stove, and there are plenty of sofas and comfortable seating too, making it the perfect place to relax after a busy day walking or exploring. The sitting room also offers opportunities to read or simply watch the wildlife that live on the marsh; binoculars are provided for you to make the most of this property's spectacular location. On long summer days, enjoy dining outside in the peaceful south-facing garden on the large terrace, or on sunny mornings, take breakfast on the front terrace overlooking the sea.

The annexe provides further accommodation, with a king-size bed, modern shower room, well equipped little kitchen and comfortable seating area, ideal for a little more independence for extended family and friends. Please note dogs are not permitted in the Annexe. You can also book both properties separately for smaller groups, as Eastgate Cottage Sleeps 6 and as Eastgate Hideaway Sleeps 2.

The NWT reserve at Cley-next-the-Sea is in easy walking distance, so make sure you visit when you can. Also, on cooler days, take advantage of the wonderful views afforded from their cafe upstairs. Bring your bikes and cycle the narrow lanes that make Norfolk such a special place, or enjoy a day trip to Holkham or one of two nearby National Trust properties which have wonderful parklands too; Felbrigg or Blickling.

Additional Information:

Two well-behaved dogs are welcome in the cottage (small additional charge).

Our first time to Salthouse after many years spent visiting Thornham and surrounding area further up the coast. It has mad a wonderful change. The cottage has been comfortable and very well-equipped. The girls have especially enjoyed the choice of gardens for a game of football. We walked to Cley one day along the beach - great weather. To Blakeney and back from Cley stocking up on goodies from the Cley Deli, then buying lots of interesting books from the second-hand bookshop. I made my first trip to Cromer where we enjoyed learning about it history, then to Overstrand to see the cliff erosion. Off for our second meal at The Dun Cow where the food is excellent. We would love to come back again. We went up to the church where there is a small football pitch. We played a match - The Radford Rovers vs Fiorentina Azurri. The locals came to watch and were very impressed. Very happy Benji the dog who loved it as much as we did. Thank you.

Lovely stay. We come to Salthouse often to get away from the world because it's like going back in time, and I have descendants in the local church yard, and my great great granny was from Salthouse. Thank you.
