About this property

With outstanding views, stunning décor and luxury fittings, The Cosy Peacock is a cottage with the wow factor. Set in the popular Troutbeck Valley, with the vibrant villages of Windermere and Ambleside on the doorstep, this cottage offers the best of peaceful rural living with cinemas, restaurants and shops only a few minutes’ drive away.

Set across three levels, with outdoor dining area and garden, The Cosy Peacock is a great choice for two couples or family wanting to make the most of their time in the Lake District. On the ground floor is the outrageously smart kitchen. A large range, granite worktops and even a wine cooler take self-catering to a whole new level. A dining area for four and luxury slate wet room complete the ground floor accommodation.

The first floor, full of character with wooden beams, open fire and exposed stone walls provides a glorious living space. The Juliette balcony offers guests the chance to make the most of the views, which can also be enjoyed from the comfortable sofas and chairs. This is a perfect spot for relaxing after a hard day walking, or shopping!

Upstairs the two sumptuous bedrooms, with luxury bedding, TVs and gorgeous house bathroom will be hard to leave. Black-out blinds and underfloor heating add the finishing touch to luxury living and sleeping.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

If pushed, only slight negative observations would be a better area for boots, coats etc (perhaps use the front door to access the property and utilise the lobby). The upstairs bath/shower is a little tight. But neither of which detracted from our very comfortable stay. Great cottage and garden, we would have no hesitation in returning.

The driveway is very narrow and anyone with biggish car would struggle.

The cottage is beautifully finished and built for comfort. We started our days watching day break from the living room window with our morning coffee. As night turns to day the hills come into focus, the view is spectacular! For a city couple like us it was really special. I recommend this cottage to anyone, local pubs are great and lakeside taxis reliable and always happy to accommodate dogs, should you want to leave the car for an evening and head into bowness for dinner. I honestly cannot wait to come back.
