Snaptrip says

Gilpin View is a charming cottage praised for its idyllic and peaceful location, with picturesque surroundings and proximity to local attractions. Guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds, the comfort of the property, and its suitability for families and pets. While some find the decor dated, the cottage's cleanliness and homely touches are noted positively.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests noting it is clean and well-kept. However, there are isolated comments on finding dog hairs and the need for a deeper clean in some areas, slightly lowering the score.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful scenery, and convenience for exploring the Lake District. Its proximity to local pubs and attractions is appreciated, making it a standout feature.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy beds and a warm atmosphere. Some concerns about dated decor and the need for better lighting and updated bathroom fixtures slightly affect the comfort score.

The facilities are deemed adequate, with a well-stocked kitchen and good internet speed. However, comments about the need for maintenance, updates to the heating system, and the lack of a dishwasher impact the score.

While some guests mention welcome packs, there is insufficient information to determine if these are consistent or to assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host. Therefore, the score is set to null, and guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

About this property

In a countryside setting only 10 minutes drive from Bowness and Lake Windermere, the historic Starnthwaite Ghyll mill house has been tastefully converted into a special complex of character cottages. Full of rural charm with its open plan living, dining & country kitchen area, upstairs to charming bedrooms and family bathroom with shower over bath. The main gardens are idyllic, and the private furnished patio is perfect for al fresco dining or just relaxing for a doze. Delightfully off the beaten track, Gilpin View is one of a row of four attractive cottages overlooking the stream and the orchard to the lush Lyth Valley, close to Crosthwaite village, renowned for peaceful country lanes, orchards and the famous damson harvest. Your local is the award-winning Punchbowl Inn (1.5m away) next to a delightful old church. A 15 minute drive takes you past the Windermere Golf Club to bustling Bowness village on Lake Windermere's eastern shore, where you'll find sophisticated shops, endless boating activities, Lake District family attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter, and a range of options for evening entertainment. From traditional Lakeland pubs to trendy tapas bars, cinema, theatre and nightclub, there's something for every taste. From Bowness Bay, you can hop on a Windermere Lake Cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside - a great way to explore while soaking up the scenery. If you'd prefer to explore the wider Lake District by car, perhaps to seek out walking routes, the A591 leads easily from Windermere village to Ambleside, Rydal Water, historic Grasmere and beyond.

Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.

Not sure where the pub was at only 1.5m? Nearest shops were Bowness-On-Windermere a 15 mins dry so not local.

However, we would agree with other residents who have noted that the place would benefit from a bit of a face lift. All it needs is a lick of paint and a refresh, nothing more. It would do wonders for first impressions! I must stress that the accommodation did not disappoint. Yes, a refresh would be nice, but we still thought it was great. My husband complained about the lack of a scart lead to use the DVD player, but that didn't bother the rest of us. A few basic essentials would be good (salt, pepper, olive oil) but, again, nice to haves rather than necessity items.

Just back from a lovely stay at 3 gilpin cottage, they say it needs an upgrade, maybe, but you cannot fault it for fabulous views, comfort, cleanliness, super comfortable beds, great heating system, weather wasn't very good during our stay, so it was a pleasure to come back to Gilpin Cottage after a full day out,
